Professor Dr. Miodrag Jovanović, ALF academic member at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law, and project coordinator, participated in the international workshop “Guidance, Expertise, Theoretical Authority and the Legitimacy of International Governance”, hosted by the School of Law and Criminology at Maynooth University, Ireland on 20–21 March 2025. During the event, Professor Jovanović presented a paper entitled “Venice Commission: What Type of Authority? A Look from Serbia.”
The workshop, coordinated by Dr. Oisin Suttle and Dr. Gürkan Çapar, brought together scholars from Europe and beyond to explore the role of expertise, guidance, and theoretical authority in the legitimacy of international governance structures. It provided a forum for in-depth discussion on how different forms of authority—legal, institutional, and epistemic—shape the development and operation of international legal and political systems. The participants from different disciplinary backgrounds approached international institutions through the lens of legitimate authority with a view to exploring the role that epistemic authority plays in today’s global governance.
